What Is Rubber flooring?

Rubber surfacing is a high-performance polymer resin blended with premium rubber granules, troweled directly over your existing concrete slab. Once cured, it forms a single seamless, flexible surface, no seams, no grout lines, no separate pavers to shift or heave. Because color runs all the way through the rubber granules rather than sitting on top as a coating, it doesn’t wear thin, chip, or peel the way a painted or sprayed surface can over time.

Comfortable Underfoot

Stays comfortable in bare feet instead of absorbing and radiating heat the way bare concrete does.

Maintains solid traction around pools, splash pads, and entryways: wet or dry.

Moves with seasonal freeze-thaw cycles instead of fracturing against them.

Minor damage can typically be repaired in place, without heavy equipment or a full re-pour.

A non-porous surface that cleans up with routine sweeping or hosing; no annual sealing required.

Rubber Coating Frequently Asked Questions

How long has rubber flooring been around?

Rubber flooring traces back to 1983 and has decades of installations across North America and internationally, this isn’t a new or unproven material.

Yes. Rubber coating is applied directly over your existing slab. No demolition or tear-out required in most cases.

Most residential pool decks and patios are completed in about a day, so you’re back to using the space quickly.

No. Slip resistance, even when wet, is one of the rubber’s core features, which is exactly why it’s popular around pools and splash pads.

Rubber flooring is available in a range of UV-stable colors. Ask your Outback design consultant for current color and finish options for your project.

Routine sweeping or hosing is typically all that’s needed. There’s no annual sealing or re-coating required like with some other surfaces.

Where Rubber flooring Works Best

Pool Decks & Patios

This is where rubber flooring shines. A cool, slip-resistant surface around the pool means bare feet, kids, and pool chemicals are no longer a hazard combination, and your patio gets a soft, seamless finish that’s comfortable to sit, walk, and lounge on.

Beyond the pool deck, rubber holds up to daily foot and vehicle traffic while resisting the freeze-thaw cracking and salt damage that break down traditional concrete and pavers over an Indiana winter.

For backyard play sets, daycare play yards, and community play areas, rubber flooring’s cushioned surface helps absorb impact from falls while standing up to constant foot traffic season after season.

Outback also installs rubber flooring for commercial and municipal clients, splash pads, daycare centers, and public recreation areas, where slip resistance, durability under heavy use, and low ongoing maintenance matter as much as appearance.

Built for Northeast Indiana Weather

Fort Wayne winters put outdoor surfaces through real freeze-thaw stress, and de-icing salt takes its toll on anything rigid. Rubber flooring’s flexibility is a genuine advantage here: instead of fighting the seasonal expansion and contraction that cracks concrete and paint, it moves with it. That’s true whether we’re finishing a pool deck in Fort Wayne, a patio in Huntington, or a play area in Auburn or Angola.
