Beyond the Garage: Coated Flooring for Kitchens, Bathrooms, and Basements

When people think "concrete coating," they usually picture a garage. But the same problem that wears out a garage floor, unsealed concrete or worn-out flooring that can't handle daily life, shows up just as often inside the house, in the rooms that take the most abuse: kitchens, bathrooms, and basements.

A kitchen floor deals with constant foot traffic, dropped dishes, spilled oil and sauces, and the occasional flood from a dishwasher or sink that didn’t drain right. Grout lines stain, tile cracks under dropped pots, and vinyl wears thin in front of the sink and stove within a few years.

A seamless coated floor removes the grout lines entirely, so there’s nothing for spills to seep into and nowhere for grime to collect. It’s finished with a durable, easy-to-clean surface and can be customized with decorative flake combinations so it still looks like a kitchen floor, not a garage floor that wandered inside.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are the one room in the house where the floor is wet more often than it’s dry. Standard tile grout absorbs moisture over time, and that moisture is exactly what leads to the mildew and musty smell that creeps into bathroom corners no matter how often you clean. Grout is also notoriously hard to keep looking fresh, and a cracked or chipped tile is a repair project all its own.

A seamless, sealed floor eliminates the grout problem altogether, and the same slip-resistant Grip Seal topcoat we use on pool decks and walkways works just as well on a bathroom floor that’s wet every single day. No grout to scrub, no tile to crack, and a finish that stays sealed against moisture instead of absorbing it.

Basements have a problem kitchens and bathrooms don’t: moisture doesn’t just land on the floor, it pushes up into it from the ground below. Indiana’s clay soil holds water close to foundations, and unsealed concrete absorbs that moisture, which is exactly what leads to the humidity, efflorescence, mold, and mildew that make basements feel damp no matter the season. It’s also why standard paint and DIY coatings tend to peel and bubble down there, they were never built to fight moisture coming from underneath.

Our basement systems use a dedicated Vapor Lock layer specifically to seal that ground moisture out, rather than just coating over the symptom. Whether your basement is unfinished storage space or a finished rec room, home gym, or entertainment area, that moisture barrier is what makes the difference between a floor that holds up and one that needs to be redone in a few years.

Which Concrete Coating Is Actually Right for Your Floor?

Epoxy, polyurea, polyaspartic. They are not interchangeable. Choose wrong and you redo your floor in a few years. Choose right and it lasts.
